Plenty of space for a pole building in front of the home! Use the Northstar for easy commute to the metro.
What do you love about the neighborhood?: Our home is located on over 3 acres in the country roads of Meadowlands, an established subdivision, surrounded by beautiful tall trees and backing up to the St. Francis River. We enjoy the peace and tranquility of where our house is situated while still enjoying the sense of community with neighboring homes and families. We are only a few miles from the Northstar Commuter Train located at the Metro-Transit, Big Lake Station, which offered us opportunities to visit the Twin Cities, to include catching a game, and utilizing the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport, without having to drive to the city.
What are some great things about your city?: We enjoy living in a small town that offers many events year-round to the residents of Big Lake and surrounding communities. In the warmer months, we spend time at Lakeside Park which has a beach area, boat ramp, and children's playground. Throughout the year, the town offers "Music in the Park" and "Movies in the Park" in addition to their weekly Farmer's Market. Every year we look forward to the town's weekend Spud Fest, a festival that offers carnival rides, activities, food vendors, and live music, in addition to sponsoring their own race and softball tournaments. During the winter, the town opens up its outdoor ice skating rink and lakes for ice-fishing outdoor activities.
What restaurants are nearby?: For a small town, Big Lake offers many dining choices to include two Chinese restaurants, several local pizzerias, casual restaurants, sports bars, an ice cream shoppe, and various fast-food establishments. Our favorite restaurant is "Russell's on the Lake" which provides a quaint fine dining experience offering great food and overlooking the lake, perfect enough to celebrate that special occasion. We love being far enough from town to enjoy country living, but close enough that many of the establishments still deliver to our home.
What grocery stores or nearby shopping is there?: Our local grocery store, Coburn's Superstore, is just a few miles away from our country living. It is situated in the center of town, surrounded by several food establishments, coffee shops, gas stations, and various businesses, making it convenient for us to run errands in a single trip.
Information about the schools in our area: We love living in a small town where the schools are smaller, offering more opportunities for individual engagement between school staff and students. The teachers and staff are very personable and committed to not only ensuring your child receives an exceptional education, but that they enjoy the experience of learning. The Big Lake School District offers many Community Ed programs for children of all ages throughout the year to include sports, swimming, gymnastics, and arts, which we have participated in as a family. We have enjoyed attending their school musicals which are exceptionally done by the students. Over the past year, the District has enhanced their curriculum, resources and facility structures, demonstrating their commitment to strive for the best in the education and development of its students at all levels. By far, this is the best school district my child has attended.
What do you do for interests and hobbies near the property?: Living in the country with paved roads makes it very easy for us to ride our bikes or go for a run without having to worry about oncoming traffic. We love going to the lake to spend time on the beach and visit the various parks and playgrounds in the area. In town, our favorite past-time is bowling and playing miniature golf at McPete's Sports Bar and Lanes. But our favorite part is simply enjoying our home, watching our child playing in the backyard and roasting marshmallows on a cold day in our fire pit.
Tell us about any additional property highlights, upgrades, recent updates that have been done: Recent updates on our property would include installing new and upgraded carpet throughout the entire house.
Key points about the house that we were drawn to when we first looked at the home: Our home search was attributed to an out-of-state job relocation and therefore, we were not familiar with what many of the counties of Minnesota had to offer. We knew we wanted to live in a rural area, far enough from the city, but close enough to have access to the airport. After looking at several homes meeting this criteria, we came across our house. Within minutes of arriving to the property, we knew this would be our home. The ride from town to the Meadowlands Subdivision, was just a few miles, yet giving us the country ambience we were attracted to. When we first saw the house, we were in love with its curb appeal situated in multitudes of greenery and picturesque nature views. The inside offered an open plan and functional living space throughout. On the main level, we have a separate Den, being used as an office, a formal Dining Room area, an eat-in kitchen, and a spacious family room with fireplace. I love that our Laundry Room and Mud Room are both separate, both also offering ample storage space. We also love having four bedrooms on one level (2nd Floor). But our favorite part would be the lower level, a beautiful "cabin feel" finished basement that offers a 5th bedroom (being used as a guest room) with a full bathroom, a theatre room, a bar with wine fridge, and another Family Room space with fireplace. We love using this space to spend time as a family watching a movie or entertaining guests. And when our out-of-town family visits, the whole space becomes their own private guest quarters!
